At C4K, we follow the nationally recognized mentoring best practices that are laid out in MENTOR's, "Elements for Effective Practice for Mentoring." MENTOR recently published a supplement to this book, intended to provide additional research- and practitioner-informed recommendations for youth mentoring programs to more effectively serve lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQQ) youth—as well as LGBTQ volunteers and other stakeholders.

Mentoring LGBTQQ+ Youth

In designing workshops, we are identifying skills that will make C4K members competitive for post-secondary education and jobs, including in Charlottesville's own quickly-growing tech industry. We are also offering more field trips to local businesses and colleges so youth members can experience first-hand the connection between the skills they are learning at C4K and tangible college and career opportunities.
